Gran Canaria offers unlimited possibilities to combine holidays and outdoor activities. The good infrastructure lets you reach even remote places. After all, there’s a lot to discover on Gran Canaria! From the waves at the coast to the green north and the pine forests of the centre – everybody will find their element here.
I am Karsten - your personal outdoor sports guide and coach! I’ve founded Outdoor Elements Gran Canaria in 2015 and since then I’m pursuing a goal: Combining sports, nature and culture to offer authentic experiences.
While studying sports, I’ve set foot on the island for the first time. The excursions to the centre and the north coast were an eye-opener. Since then I’m addicted to the trails, waves and culture of Gran Canaria.
And that’s what I want to transmit during my activities. My excursions continue where standard tours end. I want show you the real Gran Canaria!
And even my technique workshops and coaching are inspired by the islands’ locals - relaxed, no stress and never forget, that everything is easier when you smile.
So if your want to experience some of the best mountain biking, trail running, surfing or hiking on Gran Canaria, then Outdoor Elements is the right address for you!
Welcome to Outdoor Island!
You’ve never had that much fun with so little effort! Trail running is pure, dynamic and easy to learn. Your usual running equipment is absolutely enough. And the best part: You decide the pace not your heart rate monitor!
If you haven’t spend too much time with trail running, then my beginner workshop is a good starting point. On a slightly shorter tour, you will learn the technical basics and how you can even enjoy running uphills!
Or did the trail running fever already hit you? Then join on of my small group tours. I will show you the best routes in the center of the island and around Las Palmas!
Mountain biking on Gran Canaria is feature packed. The almost round volcano island with its pronounced valleys offers variety every day. Riding through the different vegetation zones is almost like visiting different countries. And although you always have to battle several climbs on each ride, you can be sure that nature’s got a reward for in stock for you.
To really be able to enjoy the tours on the island, you should be able to handle your bike. If you’re still struggling with technical descents, I can show you the basics in my skills course. After that, you are well prepared for the trails on Gran Canaria.
My guided tours usually start in Las Palmas or in San Mateo. It’s all about you. I will take care about the selecting the route, safety and maintaining the flow of the excursion.

Ok ok, Hiking can seem a bit old-fashioned. But don’t think that hiking on Gran Canaria is like the alps. You won’t find cows here
The whole track network is very loosely organised and consists mainly of old transportation routes. Oftentimes they’re the only way get cross one of the deep canyons of the island and to get to those magic places.
My hiking excursions aren’t only about hiking though. My goal is to show you a side of Gran Canaria that you won’t find in any brochure. After all the best way to understand the culture of a region is by living it.
Volcanoes made the islands emerge from the depth of the ocean millions of years ago. As with their siblings in the Pacific, the ideal recipe for first-class waves.
For equally top-notch surfing lessons, I found the perfect partner - Atlantis Surfhostel in San Felipe. Small group lessons and authentic atmosphere have already lifted my own surfing to the next level some years ago. Together with their experience, we guarantee you the best coaching and fast learning progress!
The town of San Mateo is the perfect place for mountain sports enthusiasts. Just a few kilometres away lies the Hotel Rural Las Calas, which is the starting point for many of my guided tours.
If you prefer being close to the sea, I recommend you one of the coastal towns in the north. San Felipe is a surfer’s paradise and also climbers will find quite a few crags nearby.
For all of those, who shy remoteness, the islands’ capital Las Palmas is a very good alternative. Thanks to the good infrastructure you can reach most of the interesting place by car in less then an hour.
I’ll gladly assist you in finding a suitable place for your outdoor sports holidays!
